VTech Global
|
Founded in Hong Kong in 1976, VTech is the largest supplier of corded and cordless phones in North America. VTech is a pioneer in the establishment of China-based manufacturing facilities and sells its products via a strong brand platform supported by a distribution network of leading retailers in North America, Europe and Asia. VTech has played a defining role in the development and expansion of the global telecommunications market over the past decade. As the establishment of the telecommunications infrastructure by countries around the world fueled demand, VTech introduced several new generations of cordless phone platforms, each incorporating more advanced technology, better quality and feature enhancements. VTech first revolutionized the telecommunications industry in 1991 with the introduction of the 900 MHz cordless phone, which offered greater clarity, security and range than conventional lower frequency products. In 1996, after maintaining market dominance in the segment for nearly five years, VTech was also the first in the industry to offer a 900 MHz model at a competitive price below $100 (U.S.). The company's expansion into the 2.4 GHz cordless market in 1999 reinforced VTech's core values of vibrancy, innovation and competitiveness. 2.4 GHz Digital Spread Spectrum technology provides the platform for VTech's one- and, two- line multi-handset systems, giving users greater flexibility to install additional cordless handsets in places where no phone jack exists. In 2000, VTech obtained an exclusive right for 10 years to use the AT&T brand name on consumer telephone products in the U.S. and Canada. Both well-known brands are complementary, focused on different end-users at a variety of price points. The VTech brand is perceived and marketed largely as an innovative and competitively priced brand that appeals to younger and more technology-oriented users, while the AT&T brand attracts those seeking classical styling and quality. VTech launched the next frequency frontier in 2002 with the introduction of the industry's first 5.8 GHz cordless phone platform. This pioneering offering affirms VTech's research and development leadership position, and enhances its role as a global telecommunications leader. Today, VTech's cutting-edge technology and continued growth allows it to develop an extensive selection of high quality phones. With worldwide engineering and manufacturing resources, VTech's ongoing commitment is to bring exciting and innovating products to the marketplace. In addition to telecommunication products, VTech also sells electronic learning products in North America and Europe, as well as supplies highly sought after contract manufacturing services. VTech invested $38.5 million in R&D in the financial year 2005 and launches numerous innovative and high quality products each year. With headquarters in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ("HKSAR") and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in mainland China, VTech currently has a presence in 10 countries and approximately 22,700 employees, including around 880 R&D professionals in R&D centers in Canada, Hong Kong SAR and mainland China. This network allows VTech to stay abreast of the latest technology and market trends throughout the world. |
